Pantry & Laundry
The homeowners in almost every home we’ve seen claim to have the same problem … their
pantry is too small. 100% of the time that’s not really it. Thankfully, they call us.
Their problem is frequently that the shelves (1) start too high, (2) are too far apart, and (3)
there’s no door storage.
We start by going through the items in your pantry and normalizing them by size as much as
makes sense. Then, we install side shelves with pull-out racks the width of the door opening
that are spaced based on the items they will hold. Typically, these average 9” apart. We
continue these until about 48” with fixed shelves above.
We also install a rack about 3” deep on the door for bagged soups, thin condiments, etc.
The pantry is one of the most poorly used spaces in nearly every home. Cabinetry and shelving
installed here can provide the storage needed to reduce what you must store in the kitchen and
pantry. It is not necessary to install an expensive countertop in the pantry unless this is where
you want to place your coffee maker, blender, toaster, etc. for everyday use, but a “coffee bar” is
usually a better idea if space allows.
